Whether和if的區別

一、引導賓語從句
這時兩者的含義區別很小,一般可通用.I don't know whether/if they will come to help us.但是,當whether與or not連成一個詞組時,whether不可換用if.I don't know whether or not they will come for our help.若whether和or not不連在一起,在口語中可以用if取代whether此外,還有三種情況值得注意：
(1)在介詞後面只能用whether,不能用if.I am not interested in whether you'll come or not.
(2)在動詞不定式之前,只能用whether,不能用 doesn't know whether to stay or not.
(3)在及物運動discuss後的賓語從句中,只能用whether,不能用 discussed whether we should make a change in our plan.
       二、引導主語從句
只能用whether,不能用 is unknown whether he will her the news is true remains a question.
       三、引導表語從句
只能用whether,不能用ifThe question is whether they can take our advice.
       四、引導同位語從句

常用whetherThe question whether he'll come is unknown.

五、可以用來引導一個否定的賓語從句

whether則不能用來引導否定的賓語從句,因爲它表示正反兩方面的選擇意義比較強 me if it is not going to rain,please.

六、if除引導賓語從句外,還可以引導條件狀語從句

作“是否”解.在容易引起混淆產生歧義的情況下,就不可用if,而須用se let me know if you intend to come.這個句子有兩種解釋：A：“請讓我們知道你是否想來.” B：“如果你打算來,請讓我們知道.”在書面語中,如果我們想表達的第一種含義,就得用whether來改寫第一句.
Please let me know whether you intend to come.
通俗來講,whether在大多數情況下都可以用,而if則不然,有wether和if時一般選wether不會有錯,但是如果所需的意思是"如果",自然只能選if了。
