over與above的區別

都可表示“高於”，over 主要表示垂直在上的正上方，而 above 則不一定表示正上方。

若含有動態或覆蓋的意味，通常用 over，而不用 above。

表示一般"在上" 用above，表示比較精確地靠近地"垂直在上", 用over.
比如
His office is above ours on the second floor.
(他的辦公室在我們的二樓).
注意, 說話的人很可能在地下一層或者二層, 只是表達, 那個人的辦公室在他們的上面,不一定恰好在他們上面.
The summit of that mountain is 8800 meters above
sea-level.(那座山峯海拔8800米高).
注意,,,只是表示海拔, 不表示垂直於,,,上.
His office is right over ours.(他的辦公室就在我們頭上的房間). 注意,,,是垂直在上.

僅僅表示上下次序用above, 有蒙起來或者遍及全面的含義時用over.
比如:
put this book above the other one.(把這本書放在那本書的上面).
spread the tablecloth over the table(把桌布鋪在桌上).
The sun rose above the horizon.(太陽升到地平線上)
The sun shone over the valley.(太陽普照山谷)
